Despite numerous technological advancements related to electronic key locks, there are still those who would prefer to use the standard lock and key for their front door. This seems like such an antiquated idea, but there are many who feel more secure in using the traditional type of key lock.
Why They Still Use It
However, the truth is that the use of the traditional key goes way beyond familiarization. There are several reasons why people still prefer to use these types of locks, starting with reliability. Using a key does not depend upon our being available to the lock or Internet being available. It also is not impacted by extreme temperatures or whether unless, of course, the lock is covered by freezing rain which is unheard of in Australia.
There is also less of a concern about someone “hacking” into your home. While they can still use a lock pick to get past your security, many find themselves concerned that a person would hack the code at their home, gaining access into their house.
Plus, there is one of the most legitimate concerns of all. Some of us are just not good at remembering numbers and passwords. There are so many out there we are required to remember to access into the various accounts, that remembering another 4–6-digit code is something that poses an issue for some.
The Fears Dispelled
These are understandable concerns; however, the reality is that your house is more secure, and you have greater access into your home through use of these 4–6-digit electronic key locks then you would with the standard type of lock and key.
The most obvious reason for using these is that it provides a very secure way to access your home. Trying to hack a six-digit code can be a challenge for anyone, and the vast majority of these systems will lock someone out if they continually enter the wrong code. This is good news, because you are informed right away if your system is locked. This tells you that someone is trying to gain unauthorized access into your home.
Plus, you can give a temporary code to a guest or friend who may be staying or visiting your house. No more taking the risk of leaving a key under the matt should you forget your keys or to allow someone to gain access into your home. This is one of the greatest security risks of all but, sadly, everyone seems to do it. They believe that hiding a key outside is a safe way to protect themselves, but that is simply inviting someone to gain access into your home.
In addition, you do not need to change your keys. If you lost your key, you could very well have to change your entire lock. After all, you have no idea where your key went to. Plus, even if you are sure that the keys did not wind up in the wrong hands, you still need to make a new key. This can be quite costly.
Should someone learn your keycode to your house, you simply change the code. No need to worry about lost or stolen keys.
I guess there are pros and cons for both, however the standard lock and key is by far the most popular for now.
